Camera Cop Has Actually Increased the Number of Missouri Speeders
The camera cop installed in Cool Valley has not deterred drivers from speeding, putting other motorists at risk.
October 08, 2011 /Law and Legal PR News/ -- The police camera installed near Interstate 70 was designed to act as a deterrent to speeders. However, it seems to have had the opposite effect.
According to KPLR11, the cop camera was installed in Cool Valley almost a year ago near the University of Missouri St. Louis. When the camera was first used in November 2010, it captured 498 speeders that month. In June 2011, however, it spotted 841 speeders just in that month -- an increase of almost 70 percent.
The city's mayor told a reporter that other safety measures are being considered to keep the community safe on the road. But, until those measures are implemented, the increase in speeding may have catastrophic consequences for motorists in the area.
Many people know that driving 100 mph is likely to result in a car accident, but many people do not consider that driving even 5 mph over the posted speed limit can exponentially increase the likelihood of a crash. Driving even a small amount over the speed limit lengthens the amount of time it takes to slow a vehicle, thereby increasing the likelihood that an accident will occur.
